thoughts on love (not cheesy, I promise you)
Love is not a matter of feeling, but a matter of will.
I'm not sure whether I mentioned that definition of love before...I heard it from a senior when I was a high school freshman and immediately thought of how brilliantly she defined love.
- We choose who to love, in spite of a litany of imperfections.
- Love for work. Love for the environment. Love for life---all dependent on one's decision to love.
- Love may start off as something superficial, like attraction; an ephemeral high. Until the butterflies in our tummies are gone and we still find ourselves faithful to somebody can we ever consider ourselves as truly in-love.
- I think that true love is not blind. It is a perfect balance of the heart and mind. Loving a sadistic criminal equals stupidity inasmuch as saying that being in-love with an inanimate object is just plain crazy.
- I do not believe that we are only meant to be with 'The One.' There are probably millions of people who could be 'The One.' Love means saying yes to 'This One.'
As a final note, I'd like to mention a familiar quote from Tennyson:
'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. (Tennyson)
Happy Valentine's.
