standard wound management
Let us enter the metaphorical world of inflammation and wound healing. When a sharp implement punctures the skin--perhaps due to an accident or deliberately, in the case of blood extraction (or damage motivated by evil...)--bacteria and other opportunistic pathogens enter the open skin and attempt to infiltrate the immediate vicinity. Meanwhile, the cascade of inflammatory responses leading to the cardinal signs of rubor, dolor, calor and tumor or redness, pain, heat and swelling take place in a concerted effort to defend and prevent further injury within the immediate vicinity. When capillary damage is involved, a parallel complex series of events aim to plug and seal the damage leading to the clot. Injuries are managed depending on the nature of the damage-causing tool and the severity of the damage. Time is also a dependent factor. Greater damage is to lengthier wound healing time. Now, questions such as "why allow injury?" "why cause injury?" or a more philosophical "why consider an accidental injury an opportunity to cause greater, deliberate injury?" My speculation is that the universal answer is Schadenfreude. That is, deriving happiness in the misery of others. It's a perversion of human nature. I am revulsed by the concept and even more so by its practitioners. It lacks class. It's not amusing at all. I go for nature and its inherent healing and homeostatic mechanisms.
