I'm one of those people who consciously absorbs fragments of other people's personalities; may it be in the form of a commonly used word, a fashion statement, an opinion, even drink preferences. Of course, this hodgepodge of imbibed attributes does not necessarily guarantee a socially likeable me, nevertheless, it gives me a sense of individuality and a certain degree of self-confidence. Like an amateur attempt to create art by making a self-portrait from magazine cutouts or a 3D "magic eye" image that you can only appreciate by blurring your eyes or crossing them in order to observe a hidden object within an otherwise boring repetitive pattern.
