We are worthy
I had a brief chat with an acquaintance who unexpectedly showered me with affirmations. I had mentioned how parenting and other responsibilities tend to supersede self-care and so I make a conscious effort to take care of my physical state. He asked how I make time. I simply stated that if you want something you make time for it; after which I received loads of verbal praise--it was like Christmas for the ego. I expressed my sincere gratitude and remarked that we all do not give and receive this much affirmation. It is a fact, and I have posted this before, that we have an intrinsic need to be valued. A moderate amount of it, of course. Just enough to be reminded that our sense of self-worth makes us generous towards other people. As this wonderful quote by the motivational celebrity Louise Hay exhorts:
