What are you grateful for?

It’s Thanksgiving weekend here and we commenced it with a rare trip to a downtown touristy area where we spent much time at a large chain bookstore and later ended our excursion with a box of assorted pastries from this bakery chain called the Danish Pastry House. Because it was my idea to get something from that store (I’ve been meaning to try something from their delectable window displays for the longest time), I had the wonderful task of deciding which pastries to get—a variety of flaky breads and rich cream-filled biscuits/cookies with Danish names studded in accented vowels that I couldn’t pronounce. The nice lady on the other side of the counter was patient and pronounced them for me as I pointed to my choices. I also got a small black drip coffee to go. Oh boy, when we arrived home and tried them…you can imagine the sing-songy sounds I made while I devoured pieces of treats. The nice thing about assorted boxes of anything that we take home is that we are free to to cut each kind into small pieces so everyone can try everything. Plus a single treat is very decadent and it’s easy to feel full if one decided to finish one pastry. I’m grateful for this.

I’m also grateful that I’ve finally found the time to start reading one of the public library books we bought a month ago when one of the libraries we frequented had a “fill a bag for $5” deal where they had a ‘buffet’ of books that they needed to be rid of, probably to make room for new acquisitions. The title of the book I started reading today is a hardback edition of “The Kraken Project” by the author Douglas Preston. I’m grateful for this.

Of course, I’m not only thankful for material things. I’m immensely thankful for my family, my health, and my life. To be here today is such a blessing. I hope that those who are in dire circumstances in other parts of the world will soon experience respite and joy. For you, dear reader, I wish you peace and comfort. Cheers.
