My father once gave me St. Josemaria Escriva's The Way, The Furrow, and The Forge which were compiled into a special hardbound edition, the contents of which, you will find via http://www.escrivaworks.org/.
The books contain many brief words of wisdom for ordinary life. And I was led to the following passages from The Furrow on the topics of Personality and Naturalness:
We are either one of these people:
- the person who thinks that s/he is the learned one in 434 and would like to say 565 to the pedant, or
- the person who thinks that s/he is the pedant in 434 and the audience of 565.
Either way, this is the divine comeback:
Underdog (1) or bully (2)--both are still self-centered, don't you think?
