twitterbook

At first, you ask "what is the big deal about facebook?" And then you open an account and later realize, "aaaah, I see I see."

On another occasion you ask "so what's up with twitter?" And then you were miraculously influenced to enter that cyberworld and say, "this is really gravitational."

Call me anti-social, call me vain, incarcerate me, slap me on the face and shake me vigorously...but I'm inexplicably fixated. Until when, I do not know.

Luckily, I still have my real life....and then some.

:)

I'm feeling nostalgic and dorky today, children. Cannot contain it.

perky

...inexplicably, i am. :-)

25 May 2009

i look young now? i'm confused.

So today was my first day as an adjunct prof at a different institution (with a standing agreement with my original employer) and suddenly I'm no longer "ma'am" but "miss." And these students think that I just graduated from college. So I'm not sure whether they're patronizing me because I'm new or what. Maybe I really look like them? Come to think of it, these students are bigger and more mature-looking than what I'm normally accustomed to. Interesting. I have no logical explanation....well, maybe since these kids are in a private university and are well-off compared to students from the state university I work for, perhaps they were better nourished? I don't know. Hmmm. Interesting. Interesting.

the quintessential question (abstract post)

Why?

God, pray tell. Please. I'm listening intently, I need to know.

?

I love my job

I love teaching. Even the hang-ups and the physical/emotional/financial stress that go with it. And I know I won't be teaching forever so I try to cherish each day that I'm still able to teach.

For some odd reason, I'm becoming teary-eyed.

21 May 2009

must.reboot.

Meaning to say, I must recharge. Due to the following:
  1. I took a part-time job and it starts on monday.
  2. I need to seriously practice my pieces for an upcoming piano recital. My forearm flexors need to build some more speed and endurance...I noticed that I can't play chopin's scherzo in Bbm in one sitting anymore. It really burns now. ouch.
  3. I need to prep for an upcoming conference.
  4. I just need some damn idle time.
Yes, I must set an appointment with my bedroom ceiling and once again count from 1 to God knows what numeral. Pillows ready, set, gzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........

thanks michaelangelo

this day is proving to be the strongest contender as the worst day of my life.
luckily, michaelangelo's sonnets are a reliable refuge in my dusty haven of silence.
half an hour of utter silence...and occasional sneezes.
nope, i will not submit to the "woe is me" mood no matter how tempting it is.
i shall now shift to my alternate universe of inspiration and smile like i'm in a toothpaste commercial.

here comes the sun

I just cannot stop smiling. Can't help it. Thanks to my newly discovered compartmentalized thinking-feeling process.

Could I keep dreaming for a little while longer...
When you're coasting along and nobody's trying too hard.
You can turn around and like where you are.
~When I'm thinking about you (The Sundays)

nth abstract post (not for the easily annoyed hehe)

It's funny how I arrive at the most amazing realizations during random instances. Like today, I've been working away like a machine gun and then I suddenly stop, look up, smile and then immediately discover that I can create my own little alternate universe of inspiration. Uh, what? Expound...you say. Okay:

You know that silly imaginary elephant that I was bantering about a few posts ago? Well, I thought of easing that poor imaginary creature's burden by allowing my chest to simply be. That my strategy was all wrong. Instead of restraining those overflowing, alien emotions, why not uncage them? Let them reach my amygdala (where they were all born anyway) and be reassessed. Allow them to freely roam the deepest recesses of my consciousness. Be inspired. I suppose silly imaginary elephant represents denial. At least, I'm no longer sad. I shall no longer despair. There's one thing I have control over...and that is my general disposition. Like love, happiness can be achieved if one chooses to be happy despite the general circumstances that surround oneself. Oneself.

And I can't help but nod incessantly. Back to work. Anna out.

enumeration

The False Mirror, Rene Magritte 1928

An apt transition between summer and work season (which are hardly different to me) is an enumeration of "yeah, I agree" passages, most of which have been said in criminal minds episodes.

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." -Mahatma Gandhi

"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible."
-S. Chase

"A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you, the less you know." - D. Arbus

"It has been said that time heals all wounds. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue, and the pain lessens, but it is never gone." -Rose Kennedy

"Love all. Trust a few. Do wrong to none." - Shakespeare

"Feelings are neither right nor wrong. It is what we do with those feelings that become subject to moral judgment. If the complete admission of the feeling is equal to satiety, then that is enough. Like unmined gold kept at the source. Or admiring a lit candle from outside a window.
That is enough." - A.T. Santiago

"We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will." -C. Palahnuik

"The strength of a family, like the strength of an army, is in its loyalty to each other." - M. Puzo

"In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present." -F. Bacon

07 May 2009

Yay!

Oh I am soooooo glad it's friday.

06 May 2009

the rain has gone to my brain

So that's why the British tend to be uptight, unhappy people who prefer to speak with stiff mouths. It rains a lot over there...or the skies tend to be perennially gray. Of course, I've never been to England so that was a hasty generalization.

I am currently unhealthily preoccupied with melancholy. Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's something else. But I just want to sob and be a bum, considering that a few days ago I openly admitted to being possessed by the robotic Energizer bunny. Am I classified as potentially manic depressive? I hope not.

So I shall tell myself that it's the utterly depressing weather and the routine, mundane daily life that's causing the imaginary elephant to sit on my chest. Now that I think about it, maybe the imaginary elephant is actually keeping the overflowing emotions of my thoracic cavity from causing irreversible structural damage. Raise the eyebrows, put on a smiley face, and wear a sash that says, you go have a nice day and maybe spare me some leftovers later.

Can we skip thursday and go straight to friday? So I can watch star trek? Please?
