hold it.....

Bunny: Could you do me a favor?
Elephant: What?
Bunny: Could you step on my chest...just keep it at bay...but.don't.kill.me.
Elephant: That's going to strain my biceps, kiddo.
Bunny: One limb at a time then.
Elephant: Sure, it's gonna cost you.
Bunny: How much?
Elephant: Your sanity.
Bunny: Uh, I gave it away.
Elephant: Oh....okay...I keep your chest at bay, you feed me for the rest of your life. And NO talking! You and your incisors annoy me.
Bunny: Deal. I can live with that.

o_O is for berzerk

Making a to-do list on a piece of paper and rewriting it on a day planner and typing it on a post-it application are symptoms of severe hypeprocrastination common among anal-retentive megalodorks who must tweet-facebook-blogger-gmail in sequence before performing must-do activities. I need a 12-step program. Heck, maybe I should join Survivor: Land of no internet connection.

Feels like Home.

You know how certain places or smells are so oddly familiar and you feel nostalgic/content/home/blank/almost bored/lazy...like the you-just-want-to-stare-and-not-blink kind of feeling? Like you just want to NOT do anything at all when you're in THAT specific place or you're smelling THAT particular smell? Not necessarily to relish it, but to memorize it.

And how certain people feel exactly like that? Both old friends and new. Eerily calm, familiar feeling.

Ultra cool.

it gets better

Walt Disney: Keep moving forward.

the great disappointment

...once again, I am. Never good enough for the parental generation. And was urged to seek consult for my developing facial infection. Even my son's teacher has an opinion about my 'non-stage mother' parenting style. Disappointing and ugly. How could I resist wallowing in self-pity? Tell me.

bleary yet again

it can get tiring

...being wrong. Or being told that you're wrong; implicitly and explicitly.
I'm very open to criticism, but I'm human. I'm not made of stones and iron. I have a healthy amygdala. I get hurt.

I have exerted so much effort in making sure that the people that matter in my life are pleased or at least satisfied with my activities. When I was pregnant and deemed "unproductive," I tried to submit a study for publication. Now that I'm working and doing a relatively okay job...I work too much.

So where do I put myself? I don't do things half-baked, you know. All or nothing.
I really just want to fade away right now. I feel so heavy on the chest, I can't even cry due to exhaustion.

This is really confusing.

no worries

Take it away Timon and Pumbaa...

Hakuna matata.
What a wonderful phrase.
It means 'no worries' for the rest of our days.
It's our problem-free philosophy.
Hakuna matata.

madly inspiring

A facebook acquaintance posted the following statement from Beatnik pioneer Jack Kerouac and it just inspired me like nothing else...

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

Sometimes, all it needs to see drastic change is for one courageous, crazy, devil-may-care person to take the initial step. A huge proportion of us tend to wait for that person, huh? You know, the you start and I'll follow your lead type of thing.

blasted day

Car trouble. Raining hard. Was about to be given a ticket for obstruction. Chivalry is dead.

only my thumbs are upbeat

It's 9pm and it's wednesday. I just did the dishes. The husband and son are enjoying a racing game on PSP. I want to take a shower and call it a day but I.don't.want.to.move.a.muscle. I'm blogging via my mobile whilst lying in supine position on the bed. I'm too tired and sore. [5 second pause...] Okay, gimme 5 more minutes and I pinkie swear that I'm going to move my gluteus maximus and take a shower. Favor, could you please rub my shoulder blades?

shameless and vain

Ahem ahem...I would like to direct your attention to the right-hand column of this blog where you will find an animated array of books I am in-love with. It's moving! By jove, it is high technology I tell you!

13 July 2009

Introspective abstractions

Who am I?
Why am I?
Why am I me and not someone else?
And why the heck am I asking these things as if I'm engaged in an imaginary discourse with the binary world?
I may be on the brink of insanity.
I'm such a huge turn off...even to myself. Ew. I'm weird.

when i grow up

In terms of blogging, I have always looked up to Heather Armstrong and Kat Dennings for their almost slapstick wit and "real-ness". I always learn something useful from their blogs. Or I always realize many things about being female. Most of all, these two women lead wholesome, normal lives that you just want to clap and cheer due to the fact that being cool doesn't necessitate shocking people with deviant and socially unacceptable behavior.

bleak thinking

A typical hominid reaction to over-exercised reasoning (despite a sedentary physical state) is bleariness. It's a sunday. Pulled the plug already and I'm going to postpone turning it on indefinitely. Free will.

you know what else turns me off....

...aside from straight men who incessantly primp in public places? Highly intelligent but arrogant pundits. I don't find the deliberate mockery of valued religious norms through an enumeration of ecological terms not even remotely close to the vicinity of "funny." I was so infuriated about this scienceblog post that encourages daily manual ejaculation (you know what that means). Well, I was more annoyed with some of the debasing comments of readers regarding mormons and priests who actually practice it regularly on young boys. Apparently the religious are considered as simple-minded when the following statement was posted: "To the simple-minded, human beings are all r-selected."

My opposable thumbs are pointing downwards.

i like it

Conscious and subconscious harmony. Articulated or otherwise. Fantastic.

a movie i wish were really possible, haha

it's becoming clear to me now

I know I badly need to post something really witty or funny, but there must always be a time for articulating the pensive, God-knows-where-these-thoughts-are-coming-from ideas.

Little by little, my general purpose in life is being slowly revealed to me like a large jigsaw puzzle, where the individual pieces are represented by all sorts of people and experiences and emotions. I'm not saying that I'm some kind of prophetic instrument of the Almighty, oh no, I'm way too imperfect for that kind of thing.

I think I'm supposed to be some kind of Mary Poppins? Or Nanny McPhee for kids of all ages. Hehe. Wouldn't that be a cool occupation? Bittersweet but cool.

"weathered faces lined in pain...."

Starry Night, Vincent Van Gogh

"...are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand..."
(Vincent, Don McLean)

helpful self-examination

I am vain when it comes to vocabulary. Vain to an irritating point. Oh, I am so glad I grabbed my nearly destroyed copy of Thomas a Kempis' Inner Life and was once again, like the previous post, splashed with ice cold water with the following:

Lofty words do not make a man just or holy; but a good life makes him dear to God. I would far rather feel contrition than be able to define it....'Vanity of vanities, and all is vanity,'...It is vanity to solicit honours, or to raise oneself to high station.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. Guilty of first degree vanity of words. Tsk.
